Happy snow day!
Photo by Sue Jenkins, Luckychair.com |
1. Go here and practice some trig values. Remember, our quiz will be sometime before break!
2. Or you can go here and practice.
3. Complete the following worksheet. If you don't have a printer (or don't want to print it) that's fine... do the problems on a separate page and complete the phrase at the bottom. I had to do some editing, so hopefully I didn't mess it up!
4. Or.... if you're dying for an excuse to get outside, construct a unit circle in the snow (no yellow snow, please!). Take a picture and e-mail it to me. :)
5. Either e-mail me or leave a comment on this post by 10 PM saying that you've seen the EC opportunity. If you don't do this, you won't get the points! Answers are due when you walk into the classroom tomorrow (if you choose the worksheet route).
Also, don't forget about the Wolfram Demonstration project! This would be a good time to check them out and decide which two you'd like to use. Scroll down a couple of posts to find the place where you can tell me which you've chosen (or there's a link on progressbook to it, too).

Flashcards
If you want some extra practice with your unit circle ordered pairs, check out these flashcards or go old-school and make your own!
You'll need to know these values so we can use them in the other 3 quadrants!

Happy 2-hour delay!
I hope you all heard that you don't have to get up quite as early as you normally do! (And maybe not at all!)
Just wanted to let you know that I'm working on your next project.... If we end up not having school tomorrow I'll go ahead and post it. Otherwise, I'll just leave you in suspense. :)
Be careful on your drive in!

Trig/Unit Circle Stuff
This resource has all of the basic trig/unit circle ideas that we'll be talking about. It would be a great thing to print out and put in your notebook!
(This one will be helpful later if you're thinking ahead!)
Here's a copy of the filled-out unit circle if you'd like to check yours or (heaven forbid) you lost it!

Factoring Help
OK, I lied. I want to get this help on here so you all can look over it this weekend (!) and while I'll put it on the Schoology site, too, not too many of you have joined it yet.
(I just found out that it's not open to students yet. So I guess we'll table that idea for a while!)
Need some factoring refreshers? Check this out!

Bring your book to class on Wednesday!
I have a last-minute meeting to go to tomorrow (Wednesday) so be sure to bring your books to class!
Also, if you missed the OHML today after school and have a good reason why (forgetting is not a good reason!) e-mail me if you'd like to take it Wednesday after school instead.

Factoring Quizzes
Hey everyone -
By now you all have taken the factoring quiz. I just wanted to re-explain a few things about it so you're not wondering about the grade that you see on progressbook (and you can show/explain this to your parents, too!).
There are 5 types of factoring that you all should be able to do. Unfortunately, I've noticed that not all of you are able to do them. These five types are GCF, Difference of Squares, Grouping, Trinomials with a = 1 and Trinomials with a not = 1.
Your quiz grade is out of 25 points (yes, I know there were 16 factoring problems on the original quiz). I'm assigning 5 points per factoring type. On progressbook, you should notice in the comment section for the quiz a list of the types of problems that you struggled with. These are the types of factoring problems that you didn't get correct on the quiz.
The points you missed on the quiz are totally recoverable. Starting in a few days (my goal is for Thursday of this week) you'll have an opportunity to re-take portions of the quiz. For instance, if you didn't get the grouping problems correct, then you'll be given 3 - 4 grouping problems to re-try. If you get them right, then you'll earn back the 5 points on the quiz that you missed for grouping. If you keep missing them, you obviously need more practice and will have to re-quiz it again. Once you've mastered a topic you no longer have to quiz it. We'll keep doing these mini quizzes until everyone has a 25/25 on the quiz.
Any questions?

Having trouble uploading?
Several of you have had trouble uploading files to the geogebra wiki. If this is happening to you, too, please just e-mail me your files. I just want an electronic copy of them and thought the wiki would work for us. But maybe it's not.
Whatever. :)

Mountain Punch (invented by Brandon Wilton)
Picture orientation directions
After you've inserted your image in geogebra,
1. Right click on it. This should open a box. Click on "Object Properties".
2. Click on the Position tab.
3. Set Corner 1 to Corner[1]. Set Corner 2 to Corner[2]. Set Corner 4 to Corner[4].
4. Click on the Style tab to adjust the transparency of your picture. I'd keep it somewhere between 50 and 75 so that you can see both your picture and your axes.
Have fun!!!
