Factoring Quizzes

Hey everyone -

By now you all have taken the factoring quiz.  I just wanted to re-explain a few things about it so you're not wondering about the grade that you see on progressbook (and you can show/explain this to your parents, too!).

There are 5 types of factoring that you all should be able to do.  Unfortunately, I've noticed that not all of you are able to do them.  These five types are GCF, Difference of Squares, Grouping, Trinomials with a = 1 and Trinomials with a not = 1.

Your quiz grade is out of 25 points (yes, I know there were 16 factoring problems on the original quiz).  I'm assigning 5 points per factoring type.  On progressbook, you should notice in the comment section for the quiz a list of the types of problems that you struggled with.  These are the types of factoring problems that you didn't get correct on the quiz.

The points you missed on the quiz are totally recoverable.  Starting in a few days (my goal is for Thursday of this week) you'll have an opportunity to re-take portions of the quiz.  For instance, if you didn't get the grouping problems correct, then you'll be given 3 - 4 grouping problems to re-try.  If you get them right, then you'll earn back the 5 points on the quiz that you missed for grouping.  If you keep missing them, you obviously need more practice and will have to re-quiz it again.  Once you've mastered a topic you no longer have to quiz it.  We'll keep doing these mini quizzes until everyone has a 25/25 on the quiz.

Any questions?
